@14:08Over all, great. Lots of good effects made up for a small budget and the impossibility to follow the script by heart. The only thing I had a problem with was that half of that narrative wasn't necessary, like when the prince advances on the Red Death, we know what he's doing, we don't need Poe describing it in our ear ALL the time.

@14:21This was without a doubt well made as written in the book. Poe would indeed be proud. AND THE MUSIC WAS THE BOMB!!!!

@08:39What a great build up and suspense with the montage and overlapping imagery. The added laughter was a brilliant choice.

@06:22Before "It was in the last chamber..." there's about two paragraphs of text in the original story that you cut out. I was actually a little disappointed because I wanted to see how you guys would have made the different colored rooms.

@01:22I love how through-out the opening, it's like watching the ground as you wander in circles, coughing up blood. Very creepy and very appropriate for the opening.

@10:04I love how he acts. Still proper, yet angered.

@15:15You didn't give credit to Edgar Allan Poe for the story, I think you should have.
But overall, very well done, you managed to capture the eerie atmosphere of the story.

@10:38Thanks for the comment. What you were describing was in the original cut of the film (a facial shot of the Red Death), but it was cut from the final version to maintain a more mysterious image of the character. But here is an imagine of what it looked like (out Red Death actor, in full make-up): [link]

he did a fantastic job. I enjoyed the film very much. Very seamless and I think you'll make a great addition to the festivals. A friend of mine is a local independent film maker. He made a joke trailer for a contest for grindhouse and actually ended up winning. He's been making crazy movie's ever since now! Been trying to convince him to come on DA :) [link]
here's the video he's most well known for: [link] The Hobo is a guy I know named Dave who always hangs out at the local comic book store! lol

Not sure what you mean. Basically we were aiming for the camera to follow the drops... did not really think of where the drops were coming from. They just looked really cool haha! Thanks for you comments! And no, nit pick as much as you like... it makes for some interesting commentary.

@15:29he would have been amazed at how accepted his work in horror is today as most people of the time period he lived in despised him (first for being a cruel critic of other authors' work and second for how gruesomely graphic his stories were).

@07:52this short was insense! in many ways, really.
the part where the clock chimes actually made my heart race a little, and of course, the narration helped a LOT. the costumes, the music, everything just fits perfectly into this short, i thought it was simply amazing.

Based on Edgar Allan Poe's short story 'The Masque of the Red Death', this short film was created for my University assessment at the end of 2006 for the University of Technology, Sydney.

Since its original submission for my course assessment the film has evolved significantly into something which I hope can be considered no longer just a student film, but something that is festival ready.

Pre production took 5 months, shooting was over 3 days, and post production took 18 months.

Most of the cast and crew donated their time to the project and have done an amazing job.

I am happy to answer any question in regards to the production, but in the meantime, please enjoy the film!

Camera Used: Panasonic P2 HVX-200 @ 720P
Editing Suite: Final Cut Pro (colour grading in Premiere Pro CS3)
Animated credits sequences: Adobe After Effects
Audio Mixing: Cubase SX3

This deviant asks himself if this work has evolved into something festival ready...well, for those who've seen and loved the film "Perfume..." this short will be something to enjoy. It has somewhat of a similar flavour in the narration style and the palette. A super production, with the use of costumes, make-up, coreographies...and the edition is fantastic. Please take the time to watch it. It's one of those works I'm proud of having in our deviantART Film gallery. And by the way, the answer is: yes, it's more than ready!
